The Need

There is a need for a balanced, all-inclusive national and local housing policy that will support homeownership, but that will also provide affordable housing options for rental opportunities, so that families are able to occupy affordable, safe and reliable homes. These steps are important in taking  individuals who reside with family, or in shelters to learn to become responsible and make prudent choices that will get them ready for homeownership.

The rental strategy benefits are 1.)To end homelessness and significantly reduce the number of families and individuals with severe housing needs. 2.) To enlarge the supply of affordable rental homes where they are most needed. 3.) To preserve the affordability and improve the quality of federally assisted and private unassisted affordable rental homes. 4.) To expand families’ choices of affordable rental homes located in a broad range of communities. This strategy will be more appropriate because it will:   Reduce the number of households with worst case housing needs. Increase the total number of affordable rental homes constructed and rehabilitated in communities with the greatest unmet needs.  Reduce the number of homeless families. Reduce the number of chronically homeless individuals. Reduce the number of homeless, & improve the quality of housing and available community opportunities.
